1993. Det Som Engang Var
is the second album by solo project Burzum. It was recorded in April 1992 and released in August 1993 through Burzum’s own label, Cymophane.
Varg Vikernes recorded the first four Burzum albums between January 1992 and March 1993 at the Grieg Hall in Bergen. However, the releases were spread out, with many months between the recording and the release of each album.
To elaborate of the riffs: these are haunting and dark riffs in Burzum, especially det som engang var. Varg really puts personality and a certain feel into the riffs he plays on his albums. On Det Som Engang Var he does just that and proves that he can play something far different from everything else that was coming out at the time. Made a true gem that would be timeless forever.
This album is very unique and creative. Very important release for those who are interested in black metal and want to find something very special.
The album cover is visually inspired by an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st edition) module called The Temple of Elemental Evil. At the bottom of the artwork is a depiction of the “reaper” and the tree shown on Burzum’s first album.
